Ἀρχάγγελοι καὶ Ἀγγελοι, Ἀρχαὶ καὶ Κυριότητες, Δυνάμεις, καὶ Ἐξουσίαι, καὶ Θρόνοι πολυόμματα, τὰ Χερουβείμ, καὶ Σεραφείμ, ἅμα τὰ ἑξαπτέρυγα, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν πρεσβεύσατε, τοῦ λυτρωθῆναι κινδύνων, καὶ τοῦ πυρὸς τοῦ ἀσβέστου.

We pray to you, O Archangels * and Angels, Principalities, * Authorities and Dominions, * and Thrones, and you the Cherubim * with many eyes, as well as you * the six-winged Seraphim, entreat * and intercede on our behalf, * that we be rescued from peril * and from everlasting hell fire.

Σύ μου προστάτις Ἄχραντε, καὶ ἰσχυρὸν προπύργιον, καὶ προστασία τοῦ κόσμου, καὶ σοὶ προσπίπτω κραυγάζων· Τῶν ὀδυνῶν με λύτρωσαι, καὶ τοῦ πυρὸς ἐξάρπασον, τοῦ αἰωνίου Παρθένε, τὸν ἐπὶ σοὶ πεποιθότα.

O strong defender of the world * and mighty fortress, and my own * protectress, O Theotokos, * I come to you and cry out: * Relieve me from distress and pain, * and snatch me from eternal fire, * O all-immaculate Virgin, * for I implicitly trust you.

Τὸν Πρόδρομον Ἰωάννην, καὶ Βαπτιστὴν τοῦ Σωτῆρος, τὸν ἐν Προφήταις Προφήτην, καὶ τῆς ἐρήμου τὸ θρέμμα, τῆς Ἐλισάβετ τὸν γόνον, ἀνευφημήσωμεν πάντες.

St. John the famous Forerunner * and baptizer of the Savior, * the Prophet born of a Prophet * and the son of Elizabeth, * was nurtured in the wilderness. * Come all and let us extol him.

Καὶ σὲ μεσίτριαν ἔχω, πρὸς τὸν φιλάνθρωπον Θεόν, μή μου ἐλέγξη τὰς πράξεις, ἐνώπιον τῶν Ἀγγέλων, παρακαλῶ σε, Παρθένε, βοήθησόν μοὶ ἐν τάχει.

I have you as mediatrix * before the God who loves mankind. * May He not censure my actions * in the sight of the Angels. * I entreat you, O Virgin, * come quickly to my assistance.

On Wednesday

Τὸ ὅπλον τὸ ἀήττητον, τὸ στήριγμα τῆς πίστεως, Σταυρὸν τὸν θεῖον ὑμνοῦμεν, καὶ προσκυνοῦμεν ἐν πίστει, τὸ μέγα καταφύγιον, Χριστιανῶν τὸ καύχημα, τῶν Ὀρθοδόξων φύλακα, τῶν Ἀθλοφόρων τὸ κλέος, ἀξίως σε εὐφημοῦμεν.

We praise you now, O holy Cross, and venerate you faithfully, * and worthily we extol you, * for you are the Faith''s supporter, * the weapon undefeatable, a refuge great and most secure, * the guardian of the Orthodox, * the pride and joy of all Christians, * the glory of holy martyrs.

Σταυροθεοτοκίον.

Stavrotheotokion.

Mode 2. O Women, hearken.

Παρισταμένη Πάναγνε, ἐν τῷ Σταυρῷ καὶ βλέπουσα, τὸν σὸν Υἱὸν ἐπὶ ξύλου, ταθέντα καὶ νεκρωθέντα, ὥς περ μήτηρ ὠλόλυζες, δακρύουσα καὶ λέγουσα· Τί τοῦτο τὸ παράδοξον, ὅτι ὁ Κτίστης τοῦ κόσμου, σταυρῷ ταθῆναι ἠνέσχου;

All-pure one, you were present at the crucifixion of your Son. * You saw Him nailed and suspended * upon the cross, and Him dying. * Maternally you cried aloud, and shedding tears you said to Him, * "What is this awful paradox, * that You who created all things * are crucified of Your own will?"

Ἡ δωδεκὰς ἡ ἁγία, τῶν Ἀποστόλων τὸ κλέος, σὺν τῷ σεπτῷ Νικολάῳ, καὶ Ἱεράρχῃ Μυρέων, ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν τὸν Σωτῆρα, ἐκδυσωπεῖτε ἀπαύστως.

O holy twelve-numbered unit, * the glory of all Apostles, * we pray you join St. Nicholas * that holy bishop of Myra, * and never cease your entreaties * on our behalf to the Savior.

Ἐλπὶς τῶν ἀπηλπισμένων, πανύμνητε Θεοτόκε, μετὰ δακρύων βοῶ σοι, ἐκ βάθους μου τῆς καρδίας· Ἐξάρπασόν με Παρθένε, ἐκ τῶν τοῦ ᾅδου κευθμώνων.

You are the hope of the hopeless, * O all-lauded Theotokos. * I tearfully cry to you now * from the bottom of my heart: * Save me, O Virgin, and snatch me * from the dark caverns of Hades.

Σταυρός, ὁ φύλαξ πάσης τῆς οἰκουμένης· Σταυρός, ἡ ὡραιότης τῆς Ἐκκλησίας, Σταυρός, Βασιλέων τὸ κραταίωμα· Σταυρός, Πιστῶν τὸ στήριγμα· Σταυρός, Ἀγγέλων ἡ δόξα, καὶ τῶν δαιμόνων τὸ τραῦμα.

O Cross, you are the guardian of the whole world. * O Cross, you are the height of the Church''s beauty. * O Cross, you are what strengthened the Emperors. * O Cross, the believers'' firm support. * O Cross, the glory of Angels * and the defeat of the demons.

Ὁ οὐρανὸν τοῖς ἄστροις, κατακοσμήσας ὡς Θεός, καὶ διὰ τῶν σῶν Ἀγγέλων, πᾶσαν τὴν γῆν φωταγωγῶν, Δημιουργὲ τῶν ἁπάντων, τοὺς ἀνυμνοῦντάς σε σῷζε.

Having embellished heaven with all the stars, as You are God, * by Your saints You now illumine the way for the entire earth. * O Maker of all creation, we pray You save those who praise You.

Νεκρώσιμον.

For the Dead.

Ἦχος γʹ. Ὁ οὐρανὸν τοῖς ἄστροις.

Ὁ καὶ νεκρῶν καὶ ζώντων, ἐξουσιάζων ὡς Θεός, ἀνάπαυσον τοὺς σοὺς δούλους, ἐν ταῖς σκηναῖς τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν· εἰ γὰρ καὶ ἥμαρτον Σῶτερ, ἀλλʼ οὐκ ἀπέστησαν ἐκ σοῦ.

Having, as God, authority * over the living and the dead, * give rest to Your servants * in the dwellings of the elect. * O Savior, even if they sinned, * yet they did not depart from You.

Ὁ γλυκασμὸς τῶν Ἀγγέλων, τῶν θλιβομένων ἡ χαρά, Χριστιανῶν ἡ προστάτις, Παρθένε Μήτηρ Κυρίου, ἀντιλαβοῦ μου καὶ ῥῦσαι, τῶν αἰωνίων βασάνων.

O sweetness of the Angels, * O joy of those in affliction, * and the protectress of Christians, * O Virgin Mother of the Lord, * come to my aid and redeem me * from the eternal torments.
